Dental implants

Implant treatment is one of the most life changing treatments in dentistry. A dental implant consists of a small titanium root that is inserted in the bone of the missing tooth in order to provide an anchor that will replace the root of the natural tooth. It will thus become the support needed for the replacement tooth or the denture.

One of its most important advantages with dental implants is bone preservation. Otherwise, over time, the jaw will get smaller and the face will deform. Studies have shown that when implant patients were asked if they had to do it all over again, over 90% said they would.

Implant-supported crown (for single tooth loss)

For those who have lost a single tooth, you need to replace it. Otherwise, adjacent teeth will move and this will cause all sorts of additional problems. The best long-term solution for single tooth loss is an implant-supported crown.

An alternative to an implant-supported crown is a fixed bridge. However, this requires that both adjacent teeth be trimmed to serve as pillars for the bridge. Another disadvantage is that the bridge will last only 10 to 15 years on average.

Implant-supported dentures

For those who have lost all their teeth, dental implants provide a second chance to eat normally and to smile again. In addition to improving the comfort level of your dentures, implants restore your ability to bite and to chew your food. To learn more, read our page on All-on-4 fixed dentures.
