Complete or partial dentures

If you have been wearing the same dental prostheses (dentures) for many years and have never had them examined by your dental professional, then you are exposing your health to useless risks. Too many people believe that a prosthesis remains adequate for many years. Nothing is further from the truth.

The removable prosthesis (denture) is made of a solid material that is not flexible. Yet, your face, mouth and jaws change over the years. Because it lacks the ability to adapt to these changes and because artificial teeth wear out over time, the prosthesis can only perform efficiently over a given period. This has harmful consequences, often invisible and minute for the person wearing an old prosthesis.

Following is a short list of the most harmful conditions possibly affecting those who have been wearing a prosthesis for many years:

  • Softening of the gums
  • Painful and inflamed gums
  • Difficulty chewing and digesting
  • Headaches, ears and neck pain as well as problems with the temporomandibular joint
  • Mouth that hollows and face that ages prematurely
  • Rapidly receding gums

And this is only a partial list.

Is your prosthesis unstable? Think implants

Do you find it difficult to chew? Are your gums sensitive when you eat raw vegetables? Does your prosthesis move and injure you frequently? Are your gums constantly receding? If this is the case, then you may be ready for a prosthesis on implants. Implants are nothing more than artificial dental roots upon which your prosthesis is fixed, thus allowing you to regain an efficient and comfortable mastication. The few implants that help anchor your prosthesis give it the stability you seek.
